Cajal Academy is an innovative school for bright, gifted, “twice exceptional” and EDS students in grades K-12, with embedded expertise for learning, social-emotional, physio and chronic medical conditions.
We’ve made a break-through for the field of education: a research-backed methodology for reducing or even removing learning, social-emotional and in some cases executive function disabilities.
This ground-breaking work is embedded within a project-based learning school tailored to develop the skills innovative thinkers need to turn their unique ways of seeing the world into reality.

Program Highlights
Here are some of the ways our program is unique; click through to learn more!
Only at Cajal! Rather than just accommodate children's learning, physio and social-emotional differences, we use the data in their profile to identify specific, cross-cutting skills holding them back and then develop the neural network required to perform them through Neuroplasticity Interventions. This ground-breaking approach can have transformative effects, and is only available here at Cajal!
Each student’s academic program is differentiated using the data in their profile to give them access to their strengths while we work to build up their areas of weakness. Therapy goals are integrated into our bespoke, project-based learning units to develop critical thinking, executive function and collaboration skills through immersive deep dives into real world problems.
We empower children to start living their best lives today, with personalized strategies to self-monitor, self-manage and self-advocate for their needs. Students are taught how to use powerful sensory tools to improve readiness to learn, while on-site cranial sacral therapy improves core autonomic regulation.
Infused into all we do is our unique, individualized approach to social-emotional learning. Using the data in each child's profile, we help them understand their own actions, those of their peers, and how they can foster the kinds of community they want to be part of through the choices they make. Each child's social-emotional curriculum starts by understanding where they have needs for personal growth, whether that be social cognition, self-regulation or growth mindset, and tailored to help them appreciate their own strengths and "Not Yet Skills." And we help their peers understand this too, creating a community in which it is truly safe to grow.
All student programs include coaching helping each student understand their own learning, physio and social-emotional profiles, and how those profiles impact their approaches to academic and social experiences. This coaching is tailored to the students' individualized needs, whether that be overcoming perfectionism or learning to manage a chronic medical condition. This coaching is paired with our "Yet's" system for helping students work to develop their "Not Yet Skills", and to foster a growth mindset while they do.
We teach kids the science of being human to give them understanding and agency over the connections between their bodies and minds—and a scientific basis for a growth mindset.
Our team of occupational, physical, speech and language and psychology/neuropsychology experts is on-site every day, working with our students and cross-training our teachers so their expertise is infused into all aspects of the day, and they can iteratively reevaluate student needs as they grow in response to the program and progress students to the next level.
We are taking all we are learning through our work to innovate education and sharing that with our parents through new communication tools helping parents understand and track track their students' progress. New for the 2024-25 school year, we'll be holding periodic workshops sharing our findings on everything from understanding ADHD to the science behind how our interventions work. Additional, individualized parent counseling is included in the program to improve cross-setting collaboration for certain student profiles.
