Cajal Academy is the first school in the world that is tailor-made to empower kids with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and other connective tissue disorders to thrive!

Cajal Academy was founded by a “Zebra” and mom to two EDS kids who’s also a former corporate litigator and social entrepreneur — so she knows first-hand what it takes to make sure that Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome “doesn’t get to win!”

Cajal Academy is purpose-built to provide what it takes to empower EDS kids with the scientific knowledge and self-care strategies required to thrive with EDS, not as “patients” but as the innovative kids that they are. We put the emphasis on “can do” and fostering a growth mindset while providing accommodations, on-site occupational, physical and cranial-sacral therapies and coaching in the self-monitoring and self-care skills that EDS kids need to thrive, applying research-backed EDS management strategies. This combination has successfully helped many EDS kids make it out of home-bound instruction and back to learning with peers, and has empowered our first graduate to thrive at the college of his dreams while independently managing his own EDS needs!

We’ve integrated these strategies and specialized instruction within a full-service, K-12 private day school for bright and gifted kids, with project-based learning and revolutionary special education approaches that actually reduce the learning, social-emotional, executive function and neurophysio skills that so often accompany EDS. The result is a transformative, college-prep experience that empowers kids to access and develop their gifts, be part of a community and thrive as well as possible with the body they’ve been given.
